Roller skiing is actually becoming pretty popular where I live, outside of Toronto, Canada. Even though you can ski for several months during the year here, people are very interested in roller skiing as a sport in the warmer months. I was just watching a news story about the lone skier from Ghana and you were mentioned along with a skier from Kenya. I was very proud :) You guys are such an inspiration for future Winter Olympic athletes from Africa! Keep up the great work and training. See you in Canada soon!

I bet you get your share of stares from everyone on the street while training with those in Ethiopia. One of the things that has been so inspirational about all of the 1 winter 5 dream athletes has been their dedication to figure out ways to get done what needs to be done. This is a perfect example of that. I hope that your training is going well and we are all looking forward to watching you compete in Vancouver.

Go Robel! I live in Vancouver and look forward to watching your race. That road you're on looks pretty flat - how about a roller ski up Entoto Mountain! :)

Can not believe that it is only a week away! Watched the torch arrive in Whistler tonight. Looking forward to cheering you on. And thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. Living in Vancouver, it is easy to get swept up in the excitement but it makes it all the sweeter to follow athletes and their dreams. Thanks.

Robel..
You're a legend. From your old CDV (and wife) we wish you all the best. You're an inspiration. You are the 2000's version of Cool Runnings brutha! PS - Helene says when you're finished being an Olympian, she wouldn't mind another round of the French CanCan!! We'll be watching you from Oz!
Hands Up baby, Hands Up!

Way to go! But there's something strange with your rollerskis, you've got Alpine shoes and Salomon bindings. They are two different systems, NNN and SNS. How do you do it?

I'm in the process of adopting a baby girl from Ethiopia. Once home with us in Canada, she will be on skis before she knows it. We ski all the time in the winter and so our kids do too. Maybe one day our little girl will follow in your footsteps. Good luck in Vancouver, we will all be watching.

We have a 5 year old daughter that we adopted from Ethiopia (Mekdes) and when I read her your story she was so excited. I don't think I have to tell you that we will be cheering for you on the 15th. We had the Olympic torch come through our town a couple of weeks back so things are getting pretty exciting. Good luck Robel.

Greetings four years later from Nati Samson Raehl and Kidane Shalom Raehl of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. We sent you fan mail after the Torino Olympics, and you were so kind as to send a Kidane Mehret postcard back from Addis--a postcard we framed along with a photo of your Olympic finish, and still have hanging in a prominent place. Nati is now 10 and a fantastic skate skier. Shalom is 5 and going to ski classes just like his big brother. Best of luck with the percentage-back goal, Robel! We'll be watching for you on Monday. Keep the Ethiopian Ski Federation alive! As you know, you have ignited the flame of the future for Ethiopian skiing.

Sending you some NCS love! I heard the weather forecast, and I hope the lousy wet snow gives you an advantage: anyone who can do NCS's ski slope & Mt Van Hoevenberg in the rain & ice can take on Vancouver's worst any day. Best of luck - and congratulations ROBEL!

You rock! Keep up the awesome training. I've always wanted to try roller skiing. I'm lucky to live in an area where I can ski on snow for most of the year, Mt. Hood, Oregon. We clinic up there in the summer too. Cross training is so good for you, I think this summer I will give roller skiing a try! Way to make it work. By roller skiing in Ethiopia you can draw in more interest to your sport. You'll inspire kids to be inventive and creative in working towards their dreams. Wow only 10 days until the Opening Ceremony! When so you leave for Vancouver? I'm so excited for you!
